Last month alone, the UN resolved to negotiate a long-awaited convention on crimes against humanity, the International Criminal Court (ICC) scheduled its first hearing in absentia for a wanted Ugandan war crimes suspect, the Special Criminal Court in the Central African Republic issued its second judgment, the Economic Community of West African States decided to establish a Special Tribunal for The Gambia, and the International Court of Justice was seized with another request for an advisory opinion on Israel's obligations in relation to Palestine. In just the last week, reacting to the ICC’s issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli leaders, the US House of Representatives voted to sanction the ICC in protest. Professor Christopher Lentz and Professor Anjli Parrin will discuss these and other recent developments, as well as what they portend for international criminal law and related fields.
