January | Review Bar Information | Confirm that you have read and understand the Law School's information regarding the bar exam. |
January | Submit Disclosures | Your bar application will ask you to disclose any charges, convictions, violations, misconduct, etc. whether or not they can be discovered through a background investigation. Any disclosures that you make on your Bar Exam Application you should also make to the Law School. Inconsistency in disclosures may cause delays in approval of your application. Start the process of collecting information regarding disclosures early. Please contact the Registrar's Office, registrar@law.uchicago.edu, if you would like to discuss a disclosure before officially submitting the disclosure. Please note that once a disclosure to the Law School has been made, it cannot be removed from your educational record. To submit a disclosure, please email disclosures@law.uchicago.edu. |
By January 25 | Apply for March 2024 MPRE | If applicable, sign up for the March 2024 MPRE. |
January 29 - February 9 | Sign up to take a Class Composite Photo | Each graduating student has the option to sign up and get a photograph taken for the Class Composite photo at no charge, with the option to purchase photos. A photographer will be on site to take composite photos on Jan 29 - Feb 9. More info and sign up! |
By February 1 | Apply to Graduate | Applying to graduate confirms information regarding your intent to graduate. Complete the application in the my.uchicago.edu student portal. The application will also allow you to record your name pronunciation. |
By February 9 | Complete the Graduating Student JD Questionnaire | All graduating JD students must complete the Law School’s annual Graduating Student Questionnaire. Failure to complete the questionnaire by the deadline will lead to a registration hold being placed on the student’s account. The hold will prevent students from registering for the spring quarter. |
By February 15 | Submit Bar Authorization Form | Submit the Bar Authorization Form. The bar authorization form gives the Office of the Registrar full consent to correspond with the Board of Law Examiners. ALL documents related to your law school attendance (e.g., Dean Certifications, etc.) should go to the Law School Office of the Registrar. |
By February 20 | Submit Name Changes Central Registrar | If your current name of record (check my.uchicago.edu) is not what you want on your diploma, submit a name change. Note that the way your name appears on your diploma is the way it will be read at graduation. |
By February 21 | Confirm your fingerprinting requirements for the Bar Exam |
A number of jurisdictions require fingerprints for some or all bar applicants. Please check the state bar website where you will be sitting for the bar exam to determine if you can submit ink fingerprints, or if it is one of the states that requires Live Scan fingerprints. There is a free fingerprinting service offered through the Department of Safety and Security at the University of Chicago that is available to members of the University community. UCPD will be available between 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM for fingerprinting in the Green Lounge on January 17 and 24. You may also make an individual appointment by calling 773.702.6008 or emailing ucpd-cru@uchicago.edu. Please remember to bring government ID. |
April 10 | Attend the Graduation Fair Coffee Mess | Join the Law School for graduation related information and resources. The Registrar, Dean of Students, various student services offices and the Bookstore, will answer questions and provide resources. You may also complete your bar authorization forms and pick up other bar related information at the Registrar table! |
By April 17 (JD/JSD) and April 27 (LLM/MLS) | Order your Academic Regalia | You may place your order online through Oak Hall, the University's regalia vendor. For complete information, or to view official regalia, visit the academic regalia page on the law school site for specific information on JD/JSD and LLM/MLS regalia. |
TBD | Reserve Guest Tickets |
JD, LLM, JSD, and MLS candidates are eligible to request up to four (4) tickets to the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony in Rockefeller Chapel and up to five (5) tickets to the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony Simulcast overflow seating in the Law School Auditorium. Guest tickets are required for admittance for both ceremonies. Depending on availability, candidates may enter a lottery to receive up to one (1) additional ticket to the ceremony in Rockefeller. Students will receive additional information from the Dean of Students Office if there are additional tickets. Graduates do not need a ticket. Children under 2 years do not need a ticket if they will be seated on a ticket holder’s lap during the ceremony. All other guests must have a ticket. Students will receive more information on how to claim guest tickets in the middle of Spring Quarter. |
By April 24 | Request to Hood |
Spouses, parents (not in-laws), immediate siblings (not in-laws), grandparents, aunts/uncles, and University-recognized domestic partners who have received a degree from the University of Chicago Law School are eligible to hood graduating students at the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony. Students wishing to have a family member hood them must submit an application by 11:59 PM on April 24. One family hooder is permitted per student. Students will be notified whether the request can be accommodated by the Law School no later than May 7. Family hooders are asked to wear appropriate business attire as they will be seated on the Chancel at Rockefeller Chapel throughout the ceremony. May 24 | Special Accommodations |
Limited accessible seating is available at the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony in Rockefeller Chapel for guests using wheelchairs, persons with limited mobility, and guests with visual or hearing impairments. Guests in this seating area may be joined by (1) one companion. Please note: guest with accommodations and companion requires a ticket in order to attend. Guests attending the 538th University Main Convocation ceremony in the Main Quad (outdoors) may be joined in the accessible seating area by (2) companions. Accessible seating opens at 7:00 a.m. and is first-come first-served. Please note: The University does not provide wheelchairs. Individuals are responsible for bringing their own to all ceremonies. Please confer with guests in advance about any accessibility needs to ensure they are aware that the university does not provide wheelchairs. Accommodation Request Deadline: FRI, 05/24 Additional details will be emailed to guests who filled out the form in mid-late May. By May 24 | Submit your Locker Extension | All graduating student lockers must be cleaned out by June 10. If you would like to request a locker extension, please fill out a locker extension request no later than 5:00 PM on May 26. Students with locker use extension may continue to use their lockers until August 2. All personal items left in lockers after August 2 will be disposed. |
