Jeanne T. Cohn is a trial lawyer in the Environmental Enforcement Section, Environment and Natural Resources Division at the US Department of Justice in Washington DC. She represents the federal government in environmentally sensitive bankruptcy cases, including several major coal bankruptcies, and handles litigation matters in connection with the major environmental statutes, including CERLCA, RCRA, CWA and CAA.
Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Jeanne was an environmental partner at Kirkland and Ellis LLP in Washington DC for approximately 15 years. At Kirkland, she represented clients in environmental enforcement cases, compliance matters, restructuring cases and corporate and real estate transactions. She was lead environmental attorney representing debtors in some of the most complex restructuring cases in the nation. While at Kirkland, Jeanne also had an active pro bono child immigration practice which attracted the attention of both the international and national press. Before moving to Washington DC, Jeanne practiced law in Portland, Maine and New York City.
Jeanne has been listed in the “The Legal 500 US” for Environmental: Transactional, Regulatory and Litigation and was included in “Best Lawyers Washington DC”. She was recently profiled in an article in The University of Chicago Law School Record titled “Jeanne Cohn-Connor, ’84: Driving Change for the Environment and Women’s Rights.”
