Faculty, staff, and current students welcomed the Class of 2022 to the Law School community with a "Clap In" in the auditorium on the first day of Orientation. Afterward, students heard remarks by Dean Thomas J. Miles, Dean of Admissions Ann Perry, and Dean of Students Charles Todd, and later attended a series of introductory sessions.
Among the sessions was a panel discussion featuring Professors Herschella Conyers, William Baude, and Emily Buss on the intellectual life of the Law School.
On the second day of Orientation, students participated in "Hearing One Another," a program designed to teach students to listen and communicate effectively across differences.
One evening, students enjoyed a boat cruise and dinner on the Chicago river.
Students also attended a series of mini Greenberg Seminars, where they had the opportunity to hear from different professors, including Martha Nussbaum, Douglas Baird, Saul Levmore, and others. Here, Robert Weinstock of the Abrams Environmental Clinic and Nino Guruli of the International Human Rights Clinic lead a discussion.
After a full day of activities on Tuesday--including attending a session on free expression and taking a Pledge of Professionalism--students had a chance to unwind at an event hosted by the Law School's student affinity groups.
The evening event, held at Punch Bowl Social in the West Loop, featured a variety of activities.
During the Kapnick Leadership Development Initiative portion of Orientation, students participated in a series of modules teaching leadership and interpersonal skills.
The Kapnick sessions, which were held this year on UChicago's Main Quad, included a challenge course, improv, and sessions on public speaking and dealing with interpersonal conflict.
At the end of the first day of Kapnick, students attended a reception at Hyde Park's Smart Museum of Art, which featured a photo booth.
Toward the end of Orientation, they celebrated at the annual Entering Students Dinner, which began with a cocktail reception beside the reflecting pool.
Throughout the event, students had a chance to mingle with classmates.

Professor Omri Ben-Shahar delivered the welcome remarks at this year's dinner.
Dean Thomas J. Miles enjoyed getting to know the entering students.
"O-leaders" assisted with all aspects of Orientation, from helping activities run smoothly to answering new students' questions.
Welcome to the Class of 2022!
