Don Herzog is the Edson R. Sunderland Professor of Law. His main teaching interests are political, moral, legal, and social theory; constitutional interpretation; torts; and the First Amendment. He is the author of numerous books, including the forthcoming Defaming the Dead. Professor Herzog holds an A.B. from Cornell University and an A.M. and Ph.D. from Harvard University, where he studied government. He joined the Political Science Department at the University of Michigan in 1983 and holds a joint appointment with that department and the Law School. In 2011, Professor Herzog was selected by the U-M student body to receive its coveted Golden Apple, the only Michigan teaching award given by students themselves. He is the first law professor to receive a Golden Apple in the award’s 20-year history.
