Five Questions with Jordan Hill, '18

Jordan Hill

What has been a favorite Law School course or experience of yours?

My time in the Green Lounge has been invaluable. Although not a course, I have learned so much from other students. The Green Lounge serves as a comfortable and familiar place, not only to socialize, but to discuss ideas. Students talk about class, ideas that did not arise in the class, issues they have had with a judge's reasoning, and new ideas that they would like to pursue. Additionally, many professors and visiting speakers will frequent the Green Lounge to discuss their ideas or simply shoot the breeze with students. The Green Lounge experience is one that I will cherish.

What do you value in your Law School professors?

I really expect a professor to challenge my initial thoughts about reading material. A good professor acts as somewhat as a translator, taking a set of facts, issues, and ideas, and re-imagining those ideas to make sense within a greater legal framework. I also value when a professor cares about students original ideas, and works with those students on those ideas.

Where will you be working or hope to work after graduation?

I will be clerking for Judge James C. Ho on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

What extracurricular activities have you been involved with at the Law School? What have you gained from them?

I have been involved with the Federalist Society, the Law School Musical, BLSA, the Class Gift Committee, interviewing Law School faculty candidates, and many others. I have learned the real importance of working in a group setting, especially when the group consists of many people who would like to be leaders.

What do you hope to be doing in 20 years?

In twenty years, I would love to be general counsel to the Philadelphia Eagles.
