Guest presenter Zachary Clopton will discuss his experience writing for judges in various capacities.  Mr. Clopton works for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois and also serves as a Lecturer in Law at the Law School.  Prior to serving as an AUSA, Mr. Clopton clerked for The Honorable Diane P. Wood of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.  He is teaching a course on international complex litigation this spring.

Mr. Clopton will address how lawyers should write differently when preparing documents for judges in litigation.  He will focus on practical tips for students to use in various aspects of pre-trial practice.  In addition, if time allows, he will say a few words about a different sort of writing for judges—writing for a judge as a clerk. 

This is part of a series of presentations on aspects of legal writing in various practical settings throughout the winter and spring quarters. All students are welcome. Lunch will be provided.
