Twenty-eight Law School students participated in the International Immersion Program in March, each taking one of three trips: to Hong Kong and Singapore, the Netherlands, or Russia. The Netherlands trip, which focused on international law and organizations, included a visit to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague.

The Netherlands group also attended a meeting at Eurojust, a European Union agency that handles cross-border cooperation in criminal law matters.

Here, the group is shown outside the International Criminal Court (ICC), where they observed part of the Prosecutor v. Dominic Ongwen case.

Later in the week, they visited the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The group, which was led by Tom Ginsburg, the Leo Spitz Professor of International Law, met with Kosovo Constitutional Court Judge Gresa Caka at the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance.

Another group of nine students traveled to Singapore and Hong Kong, where they met with government and university officials and attended several receptions with University of Chicago alumni. Here, they are shown visiting National University of Singapore Faculty of Law, where they met with Associate Professor Dan Puchniak, who was a visiting professor at the Law School in Fall 2015.

While at NUS Law, they also met with Associate Professor David Tan to discuss freedom of speech in Singapore.

They also toured the Hong Kong Legislative Council (LegCo) with law students from the University of Hong Kong.

Here, the students are show at LegCo with the HKU law students and Professor Jianlin Chen, who completed his JSD at the Law School in 2014.

The students visited Tamar Park outside the LegCo building in Hong Kong.

At the University of Chicago Center in Hong Kong, the students also attended a lecture on the Hong Kong electoral system by Stephen Tang, a University of Chicago alumnus.

On the Russia trip, 12 students visited Moscow and St. Petersburg. Here, they are shown in Red Square.

The group, which included Associate Dean of Communications Marsha Ferziger Nagorsky, '95, toured the Russian Constitutional Court in St. Petersburg.

At Moscow State University, the group compared legal education systems in a meeting with law students.

At St. Petersburg State, they talked with two faculty members about many topics, including space law and the relationship between the Russian constitution and the European Court of Human Rights, and had a frank conversation with several law students about American-Russian politics.

Over spring break, 28 Law School students participated the International Immersion Program, which is designed to give students the opportunity learn about international and comparative law. There were three trips: Hong Kong and Singapore, Russia, and the Netherlands. During each, students met with lawyers, scholars, and Law School alumni, and visited law firms, international organizations, and government institutions.
