UNC men’s basketball hires Jim Tanner to be program general manager

North Carolina is bringing in Jim Tanner to be the general manager for the men’s basketball program, the school announced Tuesday. UNC coach Hubert Davis has been coy recently when asked about adding a GM, but the Tar Heels have hired Tanner, a UNC graduate, High Point native and experienced NBA agent. Tanner has represented more than 70 NBA players in his 28-year career and 40 NBA first-round draft picks.

Tanner is a founder and serves as president of Tandem Sports + Entertainment and has been an NBA and WNBA agent. The company’s clients have included 17 former UNC players, including Vince Carter, Tyler Hansbrough, Justin Jackson, Marvin Williams and John Henson in addition to such former NBA stars as Tim Duncan, Grant Hill and Ray Allen.
