Bryan Krakauer

Bryan Krakauer, 67, of Chicago, IL passed away on May 16, 2024. He was born on June 9, 1956 in Orange, New Jersey to Merrill and Ceilia Krakauer. Bryan is survived by his beloved wife Marie Poppy, his loving brother Matthew Lefkowitz and his wife Amy Campbell – Lefkowitz, his sister Elayne Krakauer and many adoring nieces, nephews and friends.

Bryan graduated Duke University in 1978 and University of Chicago Law School receiving a Doctor of Law in 1981. He then joined Sidley Austin LLP as an associate in that year. He practiced as a partner in firmwide restructuring group from 1989 until 2017 specializing in financial restructuring and corporate reorganizations, both domestic and cross-border. Bryan was instrumental in elevating the national and international profile of the restructuring practice. He served major roles in several prominent firm engagements including the Tribune Company, PG&E, Lehman Brothers and Parmalat. Other partners in the restructuring practice regularly sought Bryan’s advice on both substantive legal issues and litigation tactics, and he was widely viewed as a mentor to associates throughout the firm. Bryan retired from the firm in 2018.
