Martha Nussbaum is a professor in the Law School, Philosophy Department, Divinity School, and the College at the University of Chicago. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University, and has received honorary degrees from thirty-three colleges and universities in the U. S., Canada, Asia, and Europe. Her books include Sex and Social Justice (1998), Hiding From Humanity: Disgust, Shame, and the Law (2004), and From Disgust to Humanity: Sexual Orientation and Constitutional
Law (forthcoming).

Discussant: Melanie Rowen, AB’99, JD’04, received her B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1999, and her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 2004. Since 2006, she has been a Staff Attorney at the National Center for Lesbian Rights in San Francisco, CA.
