Freedom Hair tells the powerful true story of Melony Armstrong, a natural hair braider who challenged burdensome laws in Mississippi to build her own business and empower others. Her fight wasn’t just about natural hair—it was about economic justice, entrepreneurship, and the legal barriers that disproportionately impact Black women and small business owners.
This screening is a great opportunity for anyone at The University of Chicago interested in law, economic justice, entrepreneurship, and public policy. Following the film, we’ll host a 25-minute Q&A session with Melony and staff members of the IJ Clinic on Entrepreneurship to discuss how these issues affect Illinois and beyond.
Attend the screening or contact the IJ Clinic at ijclinic@ij.org to learn more.
