Michael Farbiarz has been a District Judge in New Jersey since 2023.

Before that, he served for seven years as the General Counsel of the Port Authority of NY and NJ, one of the nation’s largest public agencies. There, he managed a law department of around 120 people and oversaw numerous multibillion dollar infrastructure transactions, including two of the largest public-private partnerships in U.S. history.

Prior to that, Judge Farbiarz served for more than a decade as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York. He received the Department of Justice’s single highest annual award, and focused on terrorism, espionage, and arms-trafficking --- including investigations and prosecutions of Russian deep-cover agents and Somali pirates, as well as multiple trials of al Qaeda operatives. From 2010 to 2014, he served as Co-Chief of the SDNY’s Terrorism & Int’l Narcotics Unit.

In addition, Judge Farbiarz has taught law full-time (for two years, at NYU); worked at a large law firm; and served as a law clerk for federal trial and appellate judges. He attended Harvard College and Yale Law School.
