Please join host Tasneem Goodman, AB'97, JD'02, and fellow alumni working in the field of Law, for a chance to network with other Chicago-area professionals and hear from the Dean of the University of Chicago Law School, Michael H. Schill, on "The Mortgage Meltdown and Its Aftermath: Homeownership, Mortgage Law and the Future of Housing Finance".

Dean Schill will briefly survey the causes and consequences of the "mortgage meltdown." With the current crisis as a backdrop, he will focus on (1) whether legal and policy incentives for home ownership are desirable, (2) whether the structure of mortgage law makes sense and (3) the advantages and disadvantages of proposals for resolving the current mortgage crisis.

Dean Schill is a national expert on real estate and housing policy, deregulation, finance and discrimination. Before joining the faculty of the University of Chicago Law School, Dean Schill was Dean and Professor of Law at the UCLA School of Law, the Wilf Family Professor in Property Law at New York University School of Law, and professor of urban planning at NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. From 1994 to 2004, Dean Schill served as the director of the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy. Prior to that, Dean Schill was a tenured professor of law and real estate at the University of Pennsylvania. He has also been a visiting professor at Harvard Law School.
